Challenge: Create a grade-separated intersection, allowing traffic to continue through the intersection without stopping.
Clients: State of Alaska Department of Transportation and Public Facilities (DOT&PF)

Approximately 50,000 vehicles per day traveled through the Glenn Highway and Bragaw Street Intersection in Anchorage, Alaska. Three westbound lanes merged into two near McCarrey Street and created a bottleneck for commuters traveling into Anchorage, and resulted in severe congestion, delays, and rear-end collisions. Traffic in this area was expected to double in the next 20 years.
The State of Alaska Department of Transportation and Public Facilities (DOT&PF) wanted a a viable solution, allowing traffic to continue through the intersection without stopping.
DOWL HKM, Inc. completed preliminary design on the Glenn-Bragaw Interchange Project. The State of Alaska Department of Transportation and Public Facilities (DOT&PF) asked designers and builders to work together to come up with an innovative design proposal for a grade-separated interchange of Glenn Highway at the intersection with Bragaw Street. Wilder Construction Company and DOWL Engineers were selected. The Glenn-Bragaw Interchange Project was completed in the fall of 2008.
