Last Friday NANA Development Corporation President Helvi Sandvik presented as the keynote speaker at the annual meeting for the Alaska Industry Support Alliance. Her message used the classic film, “It’s a Wonderful Life,” as an analogy for the way Alaska would be without the oil industry.

“I think my friends are right,” Helvi told the audience, “there are some parallels to this story. When I think about Alaska and its history, had there not been oil development, life may not have been as bleak as visualized in Potterville, but Alaska most definitely would have been a very different place.”

Helvi emphasized that in Alaska oil production has declined and so have many of the business opportunities.
