NANA Mourns the Loss of Lester Hadley, Sr.
Anchorage, AK June 21, 2010
It is with a heavy heart that I write you this message. We have all suffered a great loss today. I regret to inform you that our much-beloved board member from Buckland, Lester Taŋŋuq Hadley, Sr., has passed away this morning in his home. Lester meant so much to so many of us both personally and professionally. We will miss him dearly and our thoughts and prayers go out to his family and loved ones.
We were all honored to know Lester. Throughout his life, he was a champion for his people. Lester dedicated himself to a life of service to others. He lived Iñupiat values and fought to maintain our way of life.
Lester served NANA as a board member since 1986 holding many leadership positions throughout his three decades of service to our corporation. At the time of his death, he was the current chair of both NANA Regional Corporation’s Ethics and Rules and the Buckland/Deering Land committees and was a member of the Land and Regional Affairs committee. He also served as the vice chairman of the NANA Development Corporation Board of Directors.
I know many of you want to know what you can do to help Lester’s family or honor his life in some way. I want to let you know that we will keep you informed as more details about service times and support become available. Your prayers for the family are appreciated.
