Joe Mathis
Vice President, External Affairs
As Vice President of External Affairs, Joe Mathis develops working relationships, nurtures partnerships and promotes understanding of NANA, its values, benefits and mission. With over 25 years of combined service to NDC and its companies, Mathis served most recently as NDC vice president of business development and as president of NANA Pacific, LLC.
Mathis has over 30 years of experience in oilfield operations, business development and management. His work with the oil industry began in 1975 during the construction of the Trans-Alaska Pipeline, with three years as a pipeline camp manager. On the North Slope, he managed NANA Oilfield Services, Arctic Utilities, the Arctic Caribou Inn and Tour Arctic. He has overseen budget preparation and administration, personnel selection and training, labor negotiations and customer relations. On the North Slope, Mathis was recognized for outstanding service in the Prudhoe Bay/Deadhorse “Keep It Clean” campaign. The Alaska Department of Natural Resources gave him the “Good Neighbor Award” for organizing and implementing a project that resulted in the removal of more than 7,000 tons of scrap metal from the North Slope. He was also awarded the Arctic Footprint Award for Individual Achievement for instigating environmental clean-up work on the North Slope.
