As president of one of the oil & gas industry’s premier service companies, Mark Pregeant has seen the company grow from a small family-owned shop to a prosperous and thriving organization with international presence and a workforce numbered in the thousands.
Grand Isle Shipyard, Inc. was founded in 1948 by Clyde & Ouida Pregeant, initially as a response to the need for repair services of commercial fishing vessel, and was first located in Grand Isle, LA.
After experiencing 10 years of work in a variety of roles onshore and offshore as a roustabout, welder, mechanic and superintendent, Mark was named onshore & offshore manager overseeing GIS’s five fabrication facilities in 1991. As a core member of the company’s leadership team, Mark contributed to the refinement of the company mission and vision. He also participated in Clyde’s initiative to develop and implement GIS’s first corporate & state-approved safety management plans in 1994, as well as the first behavior-based safety program in 1997.
Through increased organization and safer work practices, the company was able to focus on growth and quickly added fabrication facilities, as well as other service lines and locations over the next decade. In 2009, Mark was named as GIS’s president & CEO. The organization continued to be polished under Mark’s leadership team with strategic planning initiatives, operational efficiency teams, process reviews, development of proprietary software systems, and an ERP deployment.
